The absence of public transportation causes the heart of the Klang Valley to constantly be congested.

Residences in Subang Jaya feel that the bus services are not regular enough. It does not go into a lot of the housing areas. It is inconsistency and unreliable.

Bus companies explain that they have to consider how profitable a route is. They look for alternative routes if it is not.

“As a government you must push through. If you own a particular bus company, you have to make sure that even if it does not collect any profit you still have to run the service because that is the duty of the government to make sure that public transportation is there for the poor”, state Hannah Yeoh, a member of the Selangor State Assembly.

No public transport in sight

People’s general perception of public transportation is; it alleviates hardship among the poor.

“The real perception is, public transport is a tool to relief congestion especially during peak hours in urban settings where population density is an issue”, states Zulkarnain, an NGO worker.

There are mixed feelings about the new LRT to be built in Subang Jaya. Yeoh also states that Feeder bus services should be provided at the LRT station otherwise people will still drive to the LRT station and it defeats the purpose of the LRT.

“The transport master plan has to plan out public transport systems from the LRTs to the bus connections to the feder buses, maybe monorails … “, state Rajiv Rishyakaran, Councilor of Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ).
